Bermgras ECL BV receives irrevocable permit for GR4SS digester

Leeuwarden, The Netherlands – Januari 7, 2025 | Bermgras ECL BV has received an irrevocable permit for the construction of a verge grass digester (GR4SS). With this permit now final, the project can proceed to the realization phase. The digester will have the capacity to process up to 60,000 tons of plant-based raw materials annually.

The GR4SS installation will convert verge grass and other plant-based materials into biomethane, bio-CO₂, sustainable substrate for potting soil, and fertilizer substitutes. The project makes a concrete contribution to the Netherlands’ renewable energy and circular economy objectives.

“The granting of the irrevocable permit marks an important milestone for the GR4SS project and for the Leeuwarden region,” said Raymond Roeffel of Bermgras ECL BV. “With this plant-based digester, we can produce substantial amounts of biomethane, creating positive impacts on both the local economy and the environment.”

The advanced technology applied in the digester enables efficient processing of plant-based raw materials while minimizing the ecological footprint. This positions GR4SS as a leading example within the sustainable energy and circular materials sector.
